Dojo-cho Edgar Johansson Promoted to 5th Dan at 2017 Kagami Biraki

Denver Aikikai is tremendously proud to announce that Dojo-cho Edgar Johansson sensei received the rank of godan (5th degree black belt) at the 2017 Kagami Biraki. We are honored by the aikido community and grateful for his leadership in and out of the dojo.

Here’s to a year of bounty and learning, discipline and joy. Join us in 2017! Beginner’s class is underway and kyu tests will be held at the end of February!

Self-Defense Workshop with Cyndy Hayashi – August 6, 2016

Denver Aikikai proudly announces the return of one of our most popular events: Self Defense with Cyndy Hayashi shihan!

Cyndy Hayashi is a 7th degree black belt in Aikido. She has successfully defended herself in situations at work, home and in the street. This unique 3 hour workshop offers practical information in a light-hearted fun atmosphere. The class will be tailored to the wants and needs of participants but will explore principles of self defense, including how to stay calm and think clearly under duress, how to deter an attacker before they engage, and how to keep yourself safe while exiting dangerous situations. No prior experience with martial arts is necessary.

Ages 10+ welcome. Dress in loose comfortable clothing with socks. We will be working from standing and ground positions.

Seminar: Frank Doran Shihan and Tres Hofmeister Sensei Oct. 2016

Please mark your calendars and plan to join us on Saturday, October 22, 2016 for an incredible event with Frank Doran Shihan (7th dan) and Tres Hofmeister Sensei (7th dan) in Denver, CO. This event marks the first time Doran Shihan will teach in Colorado, and promises a full day of aikido training of the highest caliber.

Dan Messisco sensei returns to Denver Aikikai May 8-10, 2015

Denver Aikikai welcomes back Dan Messisco sensei for another incredible workshop in May 2015.

Dan Messisco (6th Dan ASU) has been training in martial arts since 1964. His martial arts background includes extensive training in both Korea and Japan. He earned his Chodan in Tang Soo Do in Korea and studied under Hwang Kwan Jang Nim, son of Grand Master Hwang Kee. In Japan, his training includes time at Hombu dojo in Tokyo, Japan. Messisco Sensei studied under Mitsugi Saotome Shihan in Sarasota, Florida where he earned his Shodan (ASU). He also studied under Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan in Boulder, Colorado where he received his Nidan and Sandan rank (ASU). He received his Aikikai Yondan in Japan, Godan while studying in Pennsylvania, and Rokudan while in Michigan.

Friday May 8 – 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Saturday May 9 – 10:30 am – 12:30 and 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Sunday May 10 – 10:00 am – 12:00 noon

Cost:
$120 in advance or $150 at the door (if space is available)

Registration for individual classes is $40 advance and $50 at the door if space is available. Seminar is limited to 30 people so register early to reserve your spot!

Denver Aikikai is pleased to announce the lineup for the 15th anniversary of the Aikido Summit. Honored instructors from six schools of aikido come together on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Denver Buddhist Temple.
